Peanut Chewy Bars

    1/4 cup (1/2 stick) Margarine softened
    1/4 cup granulated sugar
    3/4 cup all-purpose flour
    1/4 teaspoon baking powder
    1 egg
    1/3 cup corn syrup
    2 tablespoons dark-brown sugar
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 cup chopped peanuts

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease 8-inch square baking pan. In medium sized bowl with electric mixer at medium speed, cream margarine and sugar until fluffy. Stir flour and baking powder until completely combined. Press dough into bottom of prepare baking pan: bake 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, in medium -sized bowl, beat egg. Beat in corn syrup, brown sugar and vanilla until completely combined; stir in nuts. Pour mixture over partially baked crust and bake 20 minutes longer or until puffy and set. Cool in pan on wire rack. To serve, cut into 9 bars.
